RWC’17 Author Spotlight &Giveaway: Violet Howe!

*Giveaway! Easy Entry! * U.S. only~Ends 9/3/17
Today’s featured writer is Romance, Wine & Chocolate guest author, Violet Howe! Learn some fun facts about Violet in this short Q&A.  Leave a comment on the blog for a chance to win!

1. What genres do you write?

Romantic Comedy (chick lit), Romantic Suspense/Mystery, Romantic Women’s Fiction

2. Coffee or tea lover?

Neither! I don’t like any hot beverages.

3. Name one thing on your bucket list.

To live in Tuscany for a season.

4. Do you have pets?fur babies

Yes! I have three dogs.
Josey is a Cavachon (half Bichon Frise, half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)
Gabe is a Havanese
Dexter is a mutt (half border collie and half American bulldog according to the pound, but who knows!)

5. When I wake up every morning I… feed the dogs, check Facebook and email, and intend to do yoga. I say intend because it doesn’t always happen!

6. Weirdest or unique thing you own.nail polish

Hmm. I can’t think of anything! I guess it might be weird how many nail polishes I have? I’m a bit obsessed with colors in several areas of life….nails, clothes, walls. We had 32 wall colors in our previous house, and we have 15 colors in this one. (Thankfully, my husband owns a painting contractor and indulges my color obsession!) He built me a rack for my nail polishes, and on the rare occasion someone visits the house and sees inside the master bath, they always ooh and aah over it. I attached a pic.

7. Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?

One of my hobbies is movies. I love following movies, watching movies, reviewing movies, talking about movies. Each year, I go with a group of friends to the Oscar Best Picture Showcase, where we watch all the Oscar Best Picture nominees back to back over two Saturdays. Usually four or five films each day. So in the movie season leading up to Oscars, I do a lot of research to see who the frontrunners are to try and gamble on which movies I go see in theaters. Usually there is one or two that I didn’t expect and I end up watching them again at Showcase, but I do pretty well with intentionally missing the nominees before Showcase weekends.

My other hobbies are travel–I get as much joy out of researching and planning the trip as I do actually taking it–and acting in community theater, though I haven’t had time to be on stage since I started pursuing publishing full-time.

8. What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?

My goal is always to make people laugh and make them think.
I hope my readers can relate to my characters in some way, and I always strive to incorporate humor as well as real-life lessons in each of my books.

I’ve fallen in love twice in my life.

The first time, I was nineteen. Naïve. Passionate. Willing to believe fairy tales existed.

The choices I made for love back then ruined my ballet career, destroyed my dreams, and left my heart shattered. I survived by closing myself off to any possibility of repeating the same mistakes.

This time, I’m forty-nine. Older. Wiser. Unwilling to give up my independence and risk losing myself again.

But this city girl has never danced with a cowboy before, and his rugged good looks and gentle charm are threatening to tumble the walls I’ve built around my fragile heart.

The past has a way of coming back around, though, and sometimes we can’t escape the mistakes we’ve made.

This standalone novel in the Tales Behind the Veils series is a roller coaster ride of emotions with parallel love stories that prove love is a risk no matter what age you are.

    1. Well, for a REALLY LONG TIME, it has been Diet Coke. But I kicked the habit to the curb in January. So now I love Zevia sodas, which are sweetened with stevia, and I keep the TrueLime flavor packets in my purse at all times to put in tea or water when we’re out. (the Aqua Fresca watermelon flavor is my fave!). I also really like water… I drink bunches of it! Thanks for commenting, and good luck on the giveaway!

  1. I love your nail polish collection! I am a nail polish whore too! 😉 I have a drawer in my bathroom with all of mine. One day my hubby brought it out to the great room, dumped it, and counted them. I had over 100 bottles! Every year I thin out the herd and give older ones to my 3 girls, but I still love them! Whenever my family needs a color to match something, they know Sue will have it!

    1. That’s awesome!!! Woohoo for my nail polish soul sister!! I go through and weed out colors when I see I have too many of one shade (like red….I’m a sucker for red and always buy more even though I have plenty!). The shelf has been helpful in that, because in order to add new bottles, I have to get rid of something! Thanks for commenting and good luck with the giveaway!

  2. Awesome rack for your polishes! Looks like you might need another one! 😉
Oh I am a movie lover too!! But not so much the awards shows. I am glad you like
them. But I just like the movies. Going to them. Reading about where and how they
are made. Sometimes, the stunt stuff is amazing.
    Also love to travel!!
What a fun interview to read. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you! I love reading about the movie process too! I like hearing what the director or actors were thinking or why decisions were made in regards to costumes, props, lines, etc. I love all the behind the scenes scoop! Thank you for commenting, and good luck with the giveaway!

    1. Hi there! I do sometimes get ideas from places I travel to. We might be on a street or in a restaurant or perhaps in a landmark, and I’ll think….oh, I have to set a story here! I have an upcoming story set on a horse ranch in the Caribbean based on a place my hubby and I visited last November. And I, at some point, definitely want to write a book set at Chenonceau in France. That chateau FASCINATED me…its architecture and its history! I want to do a lot of research about it and figure out a story for it. Maybe even something with time travel, which is something I’ve never written before. Thanks for commenting, and good luck with the giveaway!

    1. Josie, the apricot-colored Cavachon is the boss of the house. She keeps the other two in line and she has my hubby wrapped around her paw! Even though Dexter is the biggest, he is the youngest and came into the family when the other two were already established, so they both boss him around. But he gets the size advantage on them and he’s faster than they are! ;o)

  3. My son’s girlfriend has you beat on the nail polish front. She has between 100 and 200 different bottles. She bought a dresser/file cabinet type item from Ikea to store them in. I also don’t drink hot drinks, what do you drink instead?

    1. Oh wow!! She really likes nail polish, huh? ;o) Up until January of this year, I drank Diet Coke. Way too much of it! But I quit drinking it in January, and now I either have water or an occasional Zevia (stevia-sweetened soda). I also carry packets of TrueLime and TrueLemon in different flavors in my purse so when I’m at a restaurant I can have something other than just water.
