1. What genre(s) do you write?

Women’s fiction – love writing about things that are important to women.

Both, but lattes are my fav. I make a mean coconut latte.

3. Name one thing on your bucket list.

Cruising the Greek isles – we finally get to do it this June!

4. Do you have pets?

We used to. After our last kitty died I said, “No more.” Too hard to lose a beloved pet. Now the only animal in the house is my husband and that’s the way I like it.castle

5. When I wake up every morning I… check Facebook, make my latte and read my Bible. Hmmm. Is that a little out of order?

6. Weirdest or unique thing you own.

A miniature castle for holding books or DVD’s. My daughter made it for me in art class when she was in high school.

7. Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?

No sIMG_4151kills, sadly, but lots of interests. Love to dance. (I dreamed last night that Dancing with the Stars held auditions for non-celebs and I missed it – what a sad dream!) Love to play tennis. Love to play games – parlor games, card games, any kind of games. Love to bake! (We just put the recipe for these fabulous gluten free brownies with a surprising secret ingredient up on the Sheila’s Place website.)

8. What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?

If a reader comes away encouraged with a smile on her face, then I’ve done my job.

Christmas in Icicle Falls

Xmas in I.F.
Amazon

When Muriel Sterling released her new book, A Guide to Happy Holidays, she felt like the queen of Christmas. She’s thrilled when the new tree she ordered online arrives and is eager to show it off—until she gets it out of the box and realizes it’s a mangy dud. But rather than give up on the ugly tree, Muriel decides to make a project out of it. As she pretties up her tree, she realizes there’s a lesson to be learned: everything and everyone has potential. Maybe even her old friend Arnie, who’s loved her for years. Except, she’s not the only one seeing Arnie’s potential…

Meanwhile, Muriel’s ugly-tree project has also inspired her friends. Sienna Moreno is trying to bring out the best in the grouchy man next door, who hates noise, hates kids and hates his new neighbors. And while Olivia Claussen would love to send her obnoxious new daughter-in-law packing, she’s adjusting her attitude and trying to discover what her son sees in the girl. If these women can learn to see the beauty in the “ugly trees” in their lives, perhaps this might turn out to be the happiest holiday yet

  1. Good morning!
Thanks for adding the castle picture. I could never have figured it out correctly. I have a plant holder my son made in high school. What fabulous things to have.
Congratulations on filling a buckets list item!!
    Does traveling inspire your stories?

    1. I love stories by my friends Susan Wiggs and Debbie Macomber. And I am a John Grisham junkie. 🙂 Sometimes I do read and find myself noticing grammatical mistakes or rewriting a sentence “better.” The curse of being a writer. 🙂

    1. You know, I was always writing stories as a child. As an adult I wrote magazine articles and short stories. It was something I was compelled to do. Then one day I got an idea for a book and that was that. 🙂

    1. A story can be inspired by anything. This current book was inspired by a friend who purchased a Christmas tree on line that turned out to be a disappointment. She decided to keep it and try to make it pretty. As she has the Martha Stewart gene, it turned out gorgeous. As we were visiting I couldn’t help but think that sometimes people can be the equivalent of an ugly tree – we don’t always see their potential. And sometimes they don’t behave in a very lovely way. I thought an ugly tree and some ugly tree people might make for a fun Christmas read. I think they did. I hope readers will agree. 🙂
